This is a stunning Zandra Rhodes rayon and silk dress from around 1976-78, and features a very 1920s inspired design.
The calf length cut has a high cut neckline, offset with a very plunging V back. The sleeves are 3/4 length, and there is a petal cut overlay which becomes longer at the back to form a sheer cape-like panel.
The waistband is of horizontal pleats and the hem is cut to enhance the matchstick design of circular medallions. The lining of scalloped silk jersey in midnight blue hangs below as a feature of the dress. There are interspersed edges of pearls and crystals.
The neckline features larger pearls all around, and down the V Back. All have been meticulously applied by hand. The embellishments, and the garment it’s-self, displays superb attention to detail, and also excelsior craftsmanship.
Finishes are stunning, and the printing is wonderfully matte opaque upon the sheer material.
There are also two long ties at the back ended with decorative stoppers of pearl beads.
Condition is truly excellent. There are no holes, pulls, or snags to the fabric. All beaded embellishments are secure with no losses.
Colours are true and un-faded. There are no stains or discolouration
Size is an ENGLISH 12 (Australian 12)
But given the nature of the design, would look equally stunning on a smaller size.
